Countdown till Sinterklaas
ALBERT HEIJN
Challenge
This year marked the last release of the Albert Heijn Advent Calendar. Therefore, Albert Heijn wanted to surprise children not only with chocolates but also with Sinterklaas content. The Sinterklaas Advent Calendar is eagerly sought after by children of all ages, from those in first grade to those in eighth grade. The challenge was to develop Sinterklaas content for these different age groups.
Solution
When rain hits the windows and wind howls around the house, there’s nothing children enjoy more than being read to. That’s why we wrote five special countdown stories with Sinterklaas in the lead role. Each countdown story was written with a specific age group in mind. At the same time, it should be possible for a younger or older sibling to listen along without getting bored. This led to the creation of five countdown stories with different themes, each tailored to a specific age category but all focused on the world of experience of children. Relevancy Stories and reading aloud fit perfectly with the Sinterklaas period. And because many children are allowed to open a box after dinner, that’s also an ideal time for a story. The calendars flew off the shelves, and the stories were listened to thousands of times.
